
Samugheo
Samugheo is one of the most important town of the Barigadu. It is well worth visiting the little rustic church dedicated to San Basilio (XVI century) and the parish of San Sebastiano (XVII century), with its big bell tower , presenting a square base. Samugheo is famous for its colourful and bizarre carpets, in high demand even outside Sardinia. At the town entrance are situated some of the sector’s industries, that offer a wide choice. In the Barigadu are usually employed horizontal chassis: Samugheo privileges the particular "a indente" technique. The traditional carpet patterns are inspired by the flora and the fauna of Sardinia, but they also depicts women, knights, heraldic scenes of hunting, symbols and geometric designs. The wood craftsmen are also famous for the production of Sardinian chest, furniture and chairs in the unmistakable Sardinian style.
Between Samugheo and Villa Sant' Antonio there are the rests of the Medusa castle, Medieval construction dug in the rock. In the past, from there people could check the traffic situation in proximity of the river Araxisi and the river Maiori.
