Fordongianus
In the antiquity Fordongianus was called Forum Traiani. The Roman people camped here between the end of the I century A.D. and the beginning of II the century A.D.. Traiano emperor wanted to establish a military base to the border with the frightening Barbagie. During the roman domination, Forum Traiani reached its maximum splendour: among the most beautiful testimonies are the thermal baths and some stretch of roads, aqueducts and an amphitheatre that at that time had a carrying capacity of more than 5.000 spectators. Under the historical profile, Fordongianus is the richest locality of Barigadu.
Among the places to visit there is the church of San Lussorio (XII century d.C.), built by the Vittoriani Monks in the point of the crypt in which was beheaded the Saint martyr, in 304 A.D, and the Aragonese House, smart dwelling of the end of the XVI century. It was constructed with red trachyte, showing in the house and window frames decorative elements in Gothic-Aragonese style. Over the last years, in Fordongianu , many Bed and Breakfast have started up, providing hospitality all year round.
