Abbasanta
The territory of Abbasanta is known especially for its archaeological sites, scattered around the countryside. The Nuraghe Losa is worth being mentioned, as it is in absolute one of most visited in Sardinia. This Nuraghe can be easily reached via the131 state motorway, the main road of the Island. Apart from that, the adjacent museum is also worth a visit. Not far away from the town, in the territory of Zuri, there is the Petrified Forest, where can be observed very old trees that million of years ago got covered with lava during a volcanic eruption, which destroyed an extended forest. A good part of the site today is covered with Omodeo waters, and some vegetal fossil emerge also when this artificial basin is completely full.
The zone of Abbasanta is rich in vegetation: very common are oaks from which the cork is extracted. On the 28th August Abbasanta and the near towns celebrate Sant' Augustino in the village that takes its name. Here, in 1872 was built a church, in which on the 16th August, the simulacrum of Sant’Agostino is transported on a cart followed by a procession of men and women in local costumes. On the 28th afternoon are in program the spectacular “Pariglie” pair of horses.
