
Tonara
Tonara is a town in Barbagie, famous for its smiths ability, specialized in cowbells production for (bovine and ovine) cattle. These cowbells are worn in "clusters" from the Mamoiada Mamuthones in their official exhibitions, during the Barbaricino carnival and the main festivals: on their shoulders, they carry up to 25 kilograms of several dimensions bells.
This locality of Barbagie is known also outside Sardinia for the quality of its "torrone", a typical sweet made with honey and almonds or nuts. This is not the only product of the local handicraft: Tonara produces fancy goods, furniture, Sardinian chairs and chest, leather objects, especially bridles, saddlebacks and other horse riding equipment. The surrounding territory is particularly indicated to those who wants to plunge into the uncontaminated nature and following enchanted paths accessible by foot, horse or mountain bike.
