Fonni

Fonni is well-known for the beauty of its historical centre and for the unique winter-ski piste existing in Sardinia, on the Monte Spada. This town is also famous for its craftsmen, who are experts in wrought iron working. Fonni is an excellent mountain resort, situated near to some of the most beautiful localities of Barbagie, among woods and lakes, such as Gusana, Cucchinadorza and Govossai: in an authentic show of uncontaminated nature, especially from autumn to late spring. However, also August is a good month to visit Fonni, particularly on the occasion of the “Palio” (horse race) at San Cristoforo for the gallop. This is really an important appointment for the best knights of Sardinia, attracting thousands of spectators. Very exciting is also the performance of the “Pariglie” (pair of horses) with acrobatics (individual or in group) on galloping horses.
