Aritzo

Aritzo proposes a suggestive mixture in the heart of Barbagie: Mountains, thick woods, smoking chimneys, flocks. It is for sure one of the most important town in this central region, which from decades is particularly active under a tourist profile. We suggest you to visit "Sa Bovida", the building that in the 1700 was used as a prison: you will be able to visit three cells and the guards area. Then, the parochial church of San Michele Archangelo, constructed in the XIV century, hold some remarkable artworks.

The Ethnographic Museum is also worth a visit. Here, you can see four thousand pieces of the local agro-pastoral tradition and even some religious handiworks. There is a sector dedicated to the mountain, where among the curiosities, we find a space for the ancient production of the "carapigna", a lemon sherbet prepared with snow, especially popular in the month of August thanks to Carapigna fair. Colourful murals stand out in the external walls of certain buildings. In autumn, thousands of tourist reach Aritzo for the chestnuts festival. Sardinian typical wooden chest are also produced in Aritzo by really good craftsmen.
