Desulo
According to a widely diffused tradition in the entire Barbagie, Desulo economy has always been based on the agro-pastoral activity. This fact also emerges from the local culture, closely connected to the surrounding mountains, with which the people from Desulo have learned to cohabit since the first settlements in the Nuragica age. In the town we suggest you to visit the church of Sant' Antonio Abate from the XV century, built in late gothic style: the wooden pulpit is surely interesting, as it s baroque frescoes, near to Santa Croce church.
It worth also visiting the Etnografico Museum, known as Casa Montanàru. In the room of the Sardinian poet Antioco Casula (1878-1957), famous with the nickname of "Montanaru", there is its personal library with 1,500 volumes (among which the first editions of the “Promessi Sposi”, with the corrections made from the author Alessandro Manzoni), the objects of the local tradition and the costumes of the local inhabitants. Desulo is also known for its furniture production, especially Sardinian chairs and chest, apart from the leather working. Moreover, on the occasion of the Madonna del Carmelo festivity (in July), the procession along the town roads is very evocative, with the Verigin vexillum and the prioress in the traditional costume. In the same month, this town also attracts many curios tourists to assist the marking of the calves in the Park where were was built the little rustic church dedicated to Saint Sebastiano.
