Orgosolo
Orgosolo is one of the most characteristic towns of Barbagie, the heart of the inner Sardinia ancient agro-pastoral culture. It is famous for the murals, that from the end of the Sixties appeared in this locality (thanks to a group of anarchical youths from Milan, that wanted to manifest their contestation in this way), Orgosolo has always lived of agricultural works, sheep breeding and excellent cheese production. Over the last years, many shepherds have converted their activity in welcoming farm-houses, where it is possible to taste the eating-and-drinking specialties of the territory but also to observe the techniques of a very traditional (thousand years) old job.
In the surrounding area, it is possible to visit numerous archaeological sites, among which the three domus de janas of Su Calavriche, entirely dug in a granite block. Not far, there are the rests of a dolmen. A Sa Lopasa, instead, we found a domus de janas with a carved “betilo” ( a sacred stone, which was believe to be dwelling of a divinity). In the Supramonte of Orgosolo, in the locality Badde Tureddu, it is worth seeing the centuries-old holm-oaks, that grow next to a torrent. We also signal the state property forest of Montes.
