At about ten kilometres from Arborea, it is worth visiting two towns on the border with Marmilla. In Pau, the little rustic church dedicated to Santa Prisca deserves to be seen for its architectonic particularities, such as the arcade. Numerous Christians are attracted to this church especially from the 1st to the 3rd of September for the celebration of the Saint. The Civic Museum of Obsidian is also quite interesting. Here are exposed hundred of sculptures and obsidian objects, going back even to the Nuragic period. This particular siliceo glass, originated from the eruptive activity of old volcanos, has constituted an optimal solid and a ductile material even for the Nuragic populations, that used it for constructing their arrows’ points and lances. In the museum you could also admire sculptures and other objects realize with this material.
In Sennisceddu locality, the Path of Obsidian has been realized inside a forest, in which it is easy to find fragments of the lavic black glass. The territory of Pau is also rich in springs, appreciated for the quality of their mineral waters: we cite the Fustiolau source and that one of Acquafrida. From the 1st to the 3rd of September, Santa Prisca is celebrated in this locality. On the 2nd morning from the church of Saint George, a procession of believers leaves from the inhabited centre arriving to the near countryside at the little rustic church dedicated to the Saint. On the afternoon, the people go back to town for the civil celebration.
Finally, Ales (birthplace of Antonio Gramsci: philosopher, writer, journalist and politician), we suggest you to visit the house of the famous intellectual known all over the world for the political and social battles, fought in a particularly difficult historical period. He was only 46 years-old when he died because of his fragile health conditions, following a long imprisonment for political reasons. It is also worth visiting the beautiful cathedral at two hundred meters. In the near hamlet of Zéppara, the Museum of the Traditional Sardinian “Giocattolo” Toy deserves also to be seen. Here, visitors can look at many antique toys, homemade with the aid of adults, which have then been reproduced from the students of the Ales high school, between 1993 and 1996. The Museum contains hundred of toys in wood, cane, cork, stone, iron: carts, dolls, horses, airplanes, wheels, weapons and sounds reproducers.
