Nùoro's human settlements only in the VI century A.D.
Beside, the finds of the Roman military settlements in the surrounding territory, there is no secure evidence of Human presence before the VI century A.D. ( a grave of that period has been discovered during some digging works). Actually, the first written documents dated back 1342, perhaps when was given the toponym Nùgoro, name still nowadays used by the inhabitants to warmly call their city.
In reality, Nùoro has never been part of the Sardinian territory division (sometimes bloody) between the Giudicati (districts), and it has never constituted an authentic center of interest not even for the invading population, nor even in more recent times, for the Savoy. Nùoro paid taxes and was subject to administrative laws and restrictions, but it was slightly at the margins of the conquering fights. This was probably due to the conformation of its territory and to the difficulty in controlling it.
