The Roman domination from 238 B.C. to 455 A.D.
In 238 B.C, the city was given the name of Cagliari, this was when the Romans choose it as an ideal landing place for their military operations in the Island. Numerous valuable testimonies of their domination remain, especially as the Anfiteatro (amphitheater) next to the Orto Botanico (Botanical Garden), the villa of Tigellio and the cave of the Vipera (Viper), but also some buildings constructed between San Bartolomeo and Sant’Elia.
In 46 B.C. Giulio Cesar decided to visit the encampments and fortress of Sardinia, that had been renamed “granaio of Roma” (granary of Rome): in that determined circumstance Cesar attributed to Karalis the rank of Municipium.
