It's intact the charme of the historical centre of the Catalan Alghero
It was found during the XII century by the powerful genoese family of the Dorias, but they were the Aragoneses to impose the Catalan language, which is still today spoken by the inhabitants. Alghero and its historical centre are still suffering the Aragonese rule, begun in the far 1353. The culture is so pervaded of that, that rituals too (for example during the Holy Week, but also on the occasion of Masses celebrated to San Francesco D'Assisi) mantain peculiarities of the Catalogna.
From decades, Alghero is the destination of tourists, who come from all over the world: not only during the summer but also in winter, thanks to the low cost flights, which have enormously helped to reach more than one million transit passengers in the air station of Fertilia, only during 2005.
The old town centre surrounded by the ancient walls of the spanish bastions, since some years ago has been restored and valorized in a masterly way.
This town not only offers a wonderful coast, known with name of Riviera del Corallo (the Coral Riviera) but also lots of pleasant opportunities of stay during the winter. The area of the Nurra is very fascinating and hospitable, and it invites to go on visit all the year round
