Iglesias and the mines, the monument to Quintino Sella
In Iglesias, in piazza Municipio (Town hall square), beyond the cathedral of Santa Chiara you will find the bishop's palace. It is worth a visit the Quintino Sella square, where stands out the monument dedicated to the memory of the statesman who, in the XIX century, gave a great impulse to the extractive activity in the whole Sulcis-Iglesiente.
In 1871, thanks to the intervention of Quintino Sella and also to the money of the industrialist Giorgio Asproni, was founded in Iglesias, the Mining and Technical Institute, that took the name of Asproni and still today is one of the most attended schools of the city.
