Oristano, the palaces and the statue of the Lady Judge in the Eleonora square

The palaces in neoclassical style and the statue dedicated to the famous Giudicessa (Lady Judge) characterize the Eleonora d' Arborea square, throbbing heart of Oristano. The statue was realized in 1875 by the Florentine sculptor Ulisse Cambi, on commission of the aristocratic women of Oristano, who signed enthusiastically a free subscription and wanted that monument as the example of enlightened public administration.

In the left hand, the Giudicessa appeals one rolled up parchment which represents the Paper de Logu, the important legal document that she promulgated in 1392. Between the points that probably induced the nobles of Oristano to finance the realization of the monument (placed on the base in marble in 1881), those regarding the feminine condition of the age and always of the great present time.

Between the palaces that show oneself in public square Eleonora d' Arborea we remember the Communal Palace (in XVII the century was the convent of the Scolopi, which includes the deconsecrated church of Saint Vincenzo, of the 1800's, that it is used as council classroom), the Mameli Palace (XVIII century) with its valuable balconies in wrought iron, the Corrias Palace and historical building of the Archivio (Records office).

In close Corso Umberto some buildings stand out: Siviero palace, constructed in the end of XVIII the century (inhabited by the marquis Mariano Nurra d' Arcais, shows graceful balconies in wrought iron that are harmonized well in the just restored facade of rape color from), Palazzo Falchi, built up in the years Twenty, and Palazzo Carta.

In Donigala Fenughedu (Arboreal), a small center little kilometers far from Oristano, the monumental portale of Vitu Sotto remembers architecture and style pupular during the Savoy.
