The churches of Marghine and Planargia
The original structure of the cathedral of the Beata Vergine Maria Immacolata, in Bosa, was built in the XII century on the initiative of the Malaspina family, but today the church appears like it was reconstructed in the nineteenth century because of many previous refurbishing works caused by the very frequent seepages of water of the Temo river. The works were completed in 1809, year in which it was celebrated again the Mass. Very interesting is the high altar and at the rear the wooden chorus. In the crypt are guarded the mortal remains of some bishops who ruled the the diocese of Bosa and Alghero.
The churches of Nostra Signora del Santissimo Rosario, in Bosa, has been reconstructed in the XIX century on a previous structure. Its baroque style takes probably some cue from the church of Nostra Signora del Carmelo. Very original are the two-faces clock of triangular shape, constructed in 1875 and placed on the facade: it is one of the attractions, among the many present in the central main street Vittorio Emanuele II.
Inside the castle of the Malaspina there is the small church dedicated to Nostra signora di Regnos Altos, which lives up especially on the occasion of the homonym festivity dedicated to the Madonna on the second Sunday of September.
Inside the cemetery of Bosa it is possible to visit the church of San Giovanni Battista, whose structure dates back to the XII century. Subsequent works were completed between the XIV and the XV century, giving to the building a clear Gothic-Catalan print. On an inner wall it is recently come back to light a fresco executed in 1500's by an anonymous artist.
At a range of only a kilometer from Bosa, going through the road that hugs the church of Sant’Antonio Abbot, there is the countryside and, among the olive trees and the fruit bearing plants, rises the beautiful and small church of San Pietro “extra muros” (outside the walls, in fact). It took this name when the inhabitants of Bosa decided to put themselves under the protection of the Malaspina and to move to the other side of the Temo river that crosses the town of the Planargia, in the shelter of the castle. The church of San Pietro, that was the cathedral of the diocese of Bosa and Alghero until it was trasferred in the church of the Beata Vergine Maria Immacolata, it is the most ancient example of building constructed in Romanesque style in Sardinia. It shows the signs of the three phases of the works executed between the XI (an epigraph refers to 1073) and the XIII century: of the original structure remains only the central body. Very interesting is the monolithic architrave in sandstone, that dominates the entrance and stands out if compared to the red trachyte of the facade.
The small country church of Santa Maria di Corte is found in the territory of Sindìa, near the railway line of the Trenino Verde of the Ferrovia della Sardegna (Sardinia Railway), that connects Macomer to Bosa. It dates back to the half of the XII century and it is supposed that it has been constructed in a sacred area in which the pagans met for the cult of waters. Unfortunately, the ancient monastery, founded by San Bernardo around 1148, has gone nearly completely destroyed
The small church of Santa Sabina, in the countryside of Silanus, was built in the XI century in an area frequented since the pre-history, as demonstrates the nearby nuraghs and a nuraghic sacred pit. Built in two different moments with blocks of basalt and limestone, it has been the object of debatable refurbishing works.
In Bolòtana there is the beautiful example of the Romanesque style, the church of San Bachisio, constructed in the XIII century with red trachyte blocks. Visible some Aragonese contaminations, going back to the 1500's.
