The Battle of Sanluri
On the 30th of June 1409, the Battle of Sanluri ( “Sa Battalla de Seddori" in the local dialect) upset the plain of Sanluri. The Catalan-Aragoneses troops, guided by Martino “il Giovane” (the young), moved against the castle where the soldiers of Guglielmo III of Narbona were waiting for them. The night before the attack, Guglielmo ordered his men to hide behind a nearby hill, in order to surprise the enemies.
The morning after, while the army of Martino were marching towards the fortress, the Sardinian-giudicale array, even if attacked the Spanish troop unexpectedly, ended up in a terrible clash, encountering extreme difficulties and got divided in two groups: one headed by Guglielmo III sheltered in direction of the Monreale castle, while the other one tried to escape towards the Sanluri castle, but it was intercepted in the locality that still today is called S' Occidroxiu (because of the slaughter of the Sardinian-giudicale soldiers). In conclusion, the fortress and the medieval village returned under the Spanish power.
