The fortress of Bellavista built by the Doria in defense of Castelsardo
The original name of Castelsardo (which, in 1102, was called Castelgenovese) is owed to the evident Ligurian origin of the Doria family. The castle was built, for the will of the Doria, on the hill of Bellavista, that dominates all the inhabited center and that is one of the main tourists destination of the Anglona.
Eleonora d'Arborea (the wife of Brancaleone Doria) before becoming Giudicessa (judge - see Arborea has lived n the castle, protected by high walls for ten years). The castle changed property many times. The town was administrated for a long time by the Aragonesians.
In Castelsardo there are still the ruins of the tower of Frigiano, built before the settlement of the Doria family, in order to sight the Saracens and to prevent the disembarks and the assaults to the port and the town.
