Ridescovering the charm of the casa campidanese (the house of Campidano)
Out of the centre of Cagliari (the fraction of Pirri, for example, is on its own a part of history) the villages of Campidano show some houses typologies, which changes according to job of his proprietor. Farmers and shepherds represent a different case, for the nature of their activities.
Especially in the inhabitated cetres, each family lived inside a yard, which was marked off by a quite tall side-wall that assured privacy. Its name in the local language is “Sa lolla”, that is the interposed arcade between the real house and the enclosed garden. Very interesting are the wooden main doors, which represent a distinct attraction.
In some towns (above all in Sardara and in Serrenti), where formerly there was also an artsanal or a commercial activity inside the housing space, the architrave situated upon the main door shows still today the commercial signs carved in the rock by the local stonmasons.
In the hinterland of Cagliari, to face the economic exigency and the need of space, the new roads had origin form the nearby series of little yards: this is the case of Quartu Sant'Elena and Monserrato, to mention only the most striking examples. In the last decades, who had the fortune to buy a typical campidanese house, on the whole has made a bargain: if restored and valorized with tricks of light and some architectonic stratagems they reach a remarkable added value. Nowadays is almost impossible to buy suchlike properties.
