The countrysides of Esterzili among the richest ones in nuraghic findings
The countrysides of Esterzili are among the richest ones in censused nuraghs. In 1866 a farmer found a table in bronze, dated back to the 69 A.D. and concerning the orders given by the Roman proconsul Elvio Agrippa to his troops, for the evacuation of some villages of the territory. The Galillensi (the inhabitants of Galilla, the current Gerrei) encroached repeatedly in the territories occupied from more than two centuries by the Patulcensi Campani, farmers by vocation and not inclined to use weapons. The Roman Emperor Otone, going back to a decree of the Sardinian proconsul, Elvio Agrippa, ordered the evacuation of the fertile lands of the low Flumendosa. The whole area is however rich in findings dated back to Punic and Roman age.
In the forests of Meana Sardo, near the inhabited center, there is the nuragh Nolza. The digging works of the archaeologists, still in progress, have brought to light two of the four lateral towers. The final part of the central tower has caved in.
The nuragh Ura ‘e Sole (territory of Desulo) is at 1.131 meters on the sea level: probably in Sardinia no other nuragh have been constructed at higher levels.
