In Isili the white tower of Is Paras constructed in limestone

In the countrysides of the immediate periphery of Isili, there is the nuragh Is Paras, one of the best conserved of Sardinia after the works ended in 1998. Its characteristic is of having been constructed with white limestone cliffs and some block of dark limestone and black basalt. There were found many fragments of tools, some going back to the XI century B.C. The nuragh Is Paras (“the monks”) owes its name to the presence of the Padri Scolopi in the second half of the nineteenth century: the communal administrators of the time, opposed the demolition of the nuragh decided by the Scolopi, that intended to use the material to build a defence wall. For the shepherds, in fact, the nuragh was very usefull: from its top it was possible to control the sheep at the distance. Is Paras was built in three different phases, starting from the XV century B.C.: with the successive additions, it has acquired a trilobed plant. The diggings, still to be concluded, are bringing to light also the rests of the huts of the nuraghic village.

Near Genoni there is the nuragh Santu Pedru, where was found the little bronze called “Suonatore of corno”, (horn blower) made famous by the many documents that the students have dedicated to it. Around the nuragh, during the punic rule, developed a village.

Nuragus preserves in its toponym all the meaning of the nuraghic presence in this territory. Very important the nuraghs of Santu Millanu (with the sacred pit of Coni) and Valenza.

In the immense territory of Laconi (130 square kilometers of extension) there is the nuragh of Genna ‘e Corte, a complex structure composed by a main tower and other five connected by a defence wall.

If you go through Villanovatulo visit the nuragh Adoni, building that had in origin six towers (added to the original tower in successive ages): all around it, developed a village. It is placed on the top of a hill that, from an hight of 810 meters, dominates the territory and looks until Campidano.

The territory of Nurallao is particularly rich in testimonies of the nuraghic age, but many nuraghs are still to be completely recovered.
