Seruci, not only mines: uncovered a nuragh and hundred huts
In the territory of Gonnesa, town risen in 1714, the nuraghic complex of Seruci, near the fraction of Nuraxi Figus, is well worth a visit. The site comprises a nuragh (whose central tower is encircled by other five towers) and what remains of a village of hundred circular huts: in the main ones, among those uncovered at the beginning of the 1900's, were conserved numerous archaeological remains. The nuragh was instead discovered in 1897, even if the archaeologists' works were authorized only ten years later.
In Domusnovas, the zone of the cave of San Giovanni is rich in nuraghs: very interesting is the so-called Domu ‘e s’Orcu nuragh, that means “the ogre's house”.
In Santadi it is possible to admire the ruins of the nuragh Diana and of the village constructed all round.
In the countrysides of Sarroch, not far from the refinery of the Saras Petrolchimica, there are the ruins of a nuragh, in which Mycenaean ceramics going approximately back to 3.200 years ago have been found. The rarity consists in the fact that the clay used is of the place, and it would let suppose that the Mycenaeans had profitable contacts with nuragich populations. At only a few kilometers, we find Sa domu ‘e s’Orcu nuragh (the ogre's house).
In the old town center of Sant’Anna Arresi stands out the nuragh Arresi (two towers: the original structure dates back to the XIV century B.C.), around which between the nineteenth and the twentieth centuries were built the houses that today encircle the main square. Only a source has been saved of the nuraghic village, not distant from the nuragh.
