The menhirs in the other territories of Sardinia
Menhirs are not to be found in every region of Sardinia, but in very few identifiable territories. Beside the most important sites such as Goni (Sarrabus), Genna Arrele (Sarcidano) and Sorgono (Mandrolisai), interesting finds have been uncovered in four areas of central- western Sardinia.
Arborea
In the countryside of Villa Sant’Antonio there is the highest menhir of Sardinia (six meters height), together with other smaller “fixed stones”.
Sinis Peninsula
Nearby Cabras, there is a locality called Sa Perda Fissa (the fixed stone) because of its menhir.
Sarrabus
The territory of Castiadas, especially known for the agrarian reclamation works of the last century, boasts also some sites of great archaeological interest. We remember a megalithic complex with numerous menhir, that it is supposed it goes back to the 5000 B.C., but also domus de janas and tombe dei giganti (giants' graves).
Sulcis-Iglesiente
In Gonnosfanadiga you find a Pre-nuraghic Age menhir, near San Cosimo tomba dei giganti (giants' grave).
