Cornus, the Punic town where Asdrubale lost against the Romans
In the territory of Cuglieri, not far form Santa Caterina di Pittinuri, it is possible to admire the few remains of the Punic town of Cornus, where the Carthaginians of Asdrubale the Bald (together with the Sardinians led by Ampsicora) fought, and were defeated, in the 215 B.C., by the Romans led by the Proconsul Tito Manlio Torquato.
As Ampsicora knew about the death on the battlefield of his son Iosto, he did away with himself. Therefore Cornus passed under the power of the Romans, that settled stably. Among the ruins of the ancient town, there are numerous tombs and an area destined to the rituals of the Christian cult.
