In Tratalias an abandoned medieval village
In Tratalias, between the Rio Palmas and the Monte Migali, in front of the beautiful cathedral of Saint Maria di Monserrato, it is possible to visit the medieval village, an ancient monastery and some buildings in “ladiri” (characteristic bricks of straw and mud) that, during the last decade, have been refurbished and enhanced.
In the village, abandoned in the second half of the 1900's (when the waters of the near Rio Palmas, which run into the dam of the Monte Pranu, began to undermine the stability of the houses), lived hundred of miners families of the zone.
People, even if unwillingly, preferred to build the new houses in a valley at a range of one kilometer. Today remain only the constructions located at an higher level. The municipal administration aim at writing the name of Tratalias in the exclusive club of the most ancient Italina villages. But first of all, it must be passed the exam of the specific Committee appointed by the ANCI, National Association Italian Town Halls, as for example removing from the walls and the roofs the on sight unaesthetic electrical cables.
