The giants' tombs in the other territories

The whole island of Sardinia is rich in giants' tombs. In the territory of Erula (Anglona) it is worth to visit the giants' tomb of Giamone, famous for its denticulate stele. The tombs, in the localities of Chirralza and Cachile, are the destination of tourists and lovers as well.

Barbagie

In the territory of Esterzili have been recovered about twenty giants' tombs, among which shine those of S’Omo ‘e Nannis and of Sa Ucca de is Canis.

Baronìe

Not many are the available sites in this territory, at least among the officials ones: however, they are mostly set in the countrysides of Posada. Among the giants' tombs present in the territory of Lòculi, we mention that of S’Ena Tunda.

Campidano

In the countryside of Quartucciu, from the road that leads to Campu Omu (Orientale Sarda), you can reach the locality of Is Concias-San Pietro, where it is possible to admire one of the most beautiful giants' tombs in the Campidano, Sa Domu ‘e s’Orcu (that means “the Hades' house”).

Gerrei

In the territory of Villasalto it is possible to visit the giants' tombs of Bruncu Bullai, Pala Perdixi and Su Zureddu.

In the countryside of Ballao, in locality Maria Nuraxi, two giants' tombs are visible.

Marmilla

The giants' tomb Sa Domu ‘e S’Orku, in Siddi, is one of the most important existing in Sardinia. It is certainly one of the most majestic funeral monument of the Nuraghic Age (it goes back to the period between 1500 and 1300 B.C.).

In Lunamatrona, at 300 meters from the Museo Naturalistico del Territorio (the Naturalistic Museum of the Territory: see Museums), pre-historic complex in which shines a giants' tomb called Su Quaddu de Nixias is located.

Ogliastra

Very interesting from the archaeological point of view is the Tomba dei Giganti di Osono (Giants’ Tomb of Osono), in Triei: for its conformation and its dimensions it is considered to be one of the most important of Sardinia.

Not distant from Talana it is possible to visit numerous giants' tombs, among which those of Bau ‘e Tanca (in the proximity of the homonym nuragh), Nercone and Surgu.

Seven are the giants' tombs inside the wood of Santa Barbara (Villagrande Strisàili), a real haven peace.

In the territory of Gairo there is the giants' tomb of Is Tostoinus.

For ages many legends have been narrated in Osini about the big giants' tomb of S’Orku, built on a natural cave. Stories that are the figment of the popular fantasy, but that increase the charm of this sites.

Sarcidano

In Nurallao, in the locality of Aiodda, the finds of a megalithic tomb arouses great interest among the archaeologists, since were found menhirs (in limestone rather than in trachyte, always with figures of women or warriors), that have been re-use in a successive period (probably when they had by that time lost the religious meaning of the origin). It is widely supposed it could have been the first giants' tomb ever realized in Sardinia.

In Isili, in the locality of Murisiddi, there is a giants' tomb from which, in other ages, some menhir to be used for other functions.

Near Gergei it is possible to visit numerous giants' tombs, among which that of Preganti. Not all are easily accessible.

Sarrabus

The territory of Castiadas, famous for the reclamation works of the last century, boasts also some sites of great archaeological interest, among which a megalithic complex with numerous menhir, dated back to 5000 B.C., but also domus de janas and giants' tombs.
