Holidays in
            Sardinia: AlgheroDiscover Alghero:

The North-West of Sardinia an area that Sardegne.com will guide you to discover. Many are the places to visit and to love and we have chosen a couple to remind you: the citadel of Castelsardo, Porto Torres and its archaeological area, the Protected Marine Area of Capo Caccia, the National Park of Asinara and the city of Sassari. Driving along the coast you'll be impressed by the beautiful beaches that follow mile after mile, from Stintino and La Pelosa beach to the Bombarde on the road to Capo Caccia. A few more words about Alghero and Bosa.
Small but perfectly formed, Alghero’s medieval citadel, with atmospheric cobbled streets, has an enviable setting against the fantastic coastal scenery of the Coral Riviera. The most important tourist draw in north-west Sardinia, Alghero is the most Spanish of Sardinia’s cities: Algherese, the local dialect, is close to Catalan; the street signs are in Catalan, as well as Italian; and the great monuments are impressive reminders of 300 years of Aragonese rule, which started when the Genoese Doria family was overthrown by Pedro IV of Aragon in 1354. Most of Alghero’s sights are in the lively citadel, where bars and restaurants spill out on to the car-free streets. Seven defensive towers divide the old and new town.
In the north-western Sardinia you find even Bosa a splendid town by the sea with the Temo River flowing through it. It is a town rich in history which had its moments of greatest glory in the Aragonese period. Among the other monuments we remember the Malaspina castle which is well-conserved and dominates the town.We recommend a visit to the old city centre in the Medieval quarter of “Sa Costa” with its unique little streets and in the quarter of “sa piatta”, one of the most elegant Sardinian city areas, surrounded by high houses belonging to the eighteen and nineteen centuries, with beautiful balconies in wrought-iron. You will find many handicraft workshop where, depending on the period, you might see how to work the filigrana of gold and the coral, the production of the typical wine called Malvasia, how fishermen prepare nets, how the women of Bosa work the so-called “filè” that is the embroidered lace handmade with animals and plants images and the typical “sa pigulosa”. In this experience we will let you discover Alghero and its medieval citadel: an itinerary with guiding headphones that help you around Alghero streets, passing by the panoramic terrasse, the Multimedia museum and the Sacred Art Museum. A flashback in the past visiting two archaeological sites: the ancient cemetery of Anghelo Ruju and the Nuragh Palmavera. From May to September you'll smell the sea through a boat excursion in the Protected Marine Area of Capo Caccia: a whole day to admire Porto Conte, Capo Caccia, Isola Foradada, Isola Piana, Punta Cristallo and Cala Dragunara and to taste the typical specialities with a lunch on board. Then we add a typical lunch in Alghero. You'll be impressed by the beautiful citadel and the colours of the sea in a natural breathtaking scenario.
