Lakes, nuraghs and murales

Holidays over immagination in Sardinia, immersed in a natural and still uncontaminated area among navigable lakes, ruins of past cultures and craftmade traditions. Engedras will lead you to know the mountains of the island: you will start from Orroli, the village that guards the signs of the presence of men since the remote prehistory, and you will arrive till Fonni, the highest village in Sardinia. You will visit a beautiful haus-museum, where time stopped 200 years ago, where you will see women baking bread, the tools to work the fields and embroidered trousseaux of the '800. You will admire nuraghs and archaeological sites, caves and giants' graves, murales and the wild horses of the Giara of Tuili. It will seem to you to come back in time, when for two evenings you will learn the secrets of the food of Sarcidano, preparing with your hands some products that you will flavour following the recipes that will be taught you and that you will take away with you to remember this corner of Sardinia. A trip by boat on the lake Flumendosa, the archaeological sites of Gremanu and Madau, a naturalistic walk on the lake Gusana will complete this experience on the mountains.

Programme (Period: from March bis november - Lenght: 8 days/7 nights):

Day 1: -->Arrival of partecipants at the airport of Cagliari, welcome by the guide which will be with the group during all trip. Transfer to Orroli, visit of the hous-museum Omu Axiu. Dinner in hotel. Bus track: Cagliari-Elmas airport-Orroli 74 km.
Day 2: --> Breakfast, transfer to Sadali and visit of the Caves of Is Janas (the fairies), some of the most beautiful in the whole Mediterranean basin, that according to the legend were fixed adobe of three “janas”, half faires and half witches, that were respected and feared by the inhabitants of the area. This long passage (280 m) is rich in concretions of stalactites and stalagmites and in interesting cavernicolous fauna. We will hiking on a equipped path until the waterfall of Su Su Stampu de su Turnu. Lunch in restaurant. In the afternoon visit of Sadali and of its old center on the wall of the calcareous upland. Transfer to Orroli and dinner in hotel.
Bus track: Orroli-Sadali there and back 62 km.
Day 3: --> Breakfast, transfer to Is Tellas (Nurri) and trip by boat on board of a big and comfortable blade boat for a trip through the lake Flumendosa and the lake Mulargia and their backgrounds of mysterious and strong colours. Lunch in restaurant. In the afternoon visit of the Nuragh Arrubiu in Orroli. In the afternoon cooking course: you will prepare with your hands a typical of the area using the old kitchen of the house, then you will move to the modern kitchen where you will learn the recipe for the product you will have lernt. Typical dinner with also the products you will have lernt to prepare.
Bus track: Orroli-Nurri there and back: 20 km
Day 4: --> Breakfast, transfer to Tuili and visit of the Giara, characterized by fresh water marshes, that dry up in summer, and by the horses of the Giara, the only wild horse in 'Europe. Typical lunch. Then you will visit the nuragh par excellence i.e. “Su Nuraxi” of Barumini. In the afternoon, transfer to Fonni and dinner in hotel.
Bus track: Orroli-Tuili: 34 km; Tuili-Barumini: 4 km; Barumini-Fonni: 100 km
Day 5: --> Breakfast, transfer to Oliena, where you will visit the karst of Su Gologone, then you will visit Orgosolo, with its characteristic murales. Free time at lunch. In the afternoon visit of the museum of mediterranean masks of Mamoiada. In the evening return to the hotel in Fonni and dinner.
Bus track: Fonni-Oliena: 42 km; Oliena-Mamoiada: 26 km; Mamoiada-Fonni: 16 km
Day 6: -->Breakfast, visit of the nuragh Dronnoro, visit of the nuraghic necropolis of Madau where thank to a series of 5 graves we can suppose the pre-Christian funeral rites. Then you will reach the site of Gremanu where an important archaeological has been brought to light and where you will admire the only nuraghic aqueduct in Sardinia. Return to Fonni, free time at lunch and in the afternoon. It is possible to visit the Basilica dei Martiri in Fonni and to admire the wonderful murales all over the village. Dinner in hotel. Possibility to plan a folkloristic evening with typical menu in the hotel.
Bus track: about 30 km.
Day 7: --> Breakfast, visit of the near village of Gavoi. Free time at lunch. In the afternoon: trip to the lake of Gusana. Dinner in hotel.
Bus track: 14 km
Day 8: --> Free time and transfer to the airport of Cagliari, departure. Bus track: Fonni- Cagliari-Elmas Airport 205 Km.
