SULCIS IGLESIENTE:is a region not really homogeneous in its morphologic profile. The Sulcis is the most meridional part of Sardinia. The south-oriental sector is predominantly mountainous, extending from Capoterra (few kilometers from Cagliari), to Capo Teulada e Capo Spartivento. Monti Is Caravius (1.116 meters), Monti Lattias (1.086 meters) and Monti Nieddu (1.041) are the highest peaks of the area, but in the inner zone the Monte Linas (1.236 meters) is doubtless dominant. The relieves visibly decrease toward west: Monte Arbu reaches only 194 meters. The two minor islands of San Pietro and Sant’Antioco are also part of the region. The Island of San Pietro is one of the favorite destinations of the tourists preferring the meridional side of Sardinia. Carloforte is the only urban center and during the summer is populated also by Sardinians on holidays. Characteristic is the Genoese dialect imported by the coral fishermen from Liguria ( the majority was from Pegli) who, after having lived for long time in a island in front of Tabarca (Tunisia) sought a better place for their trades safer from the pirate's assaults. King Carlo Emanuele III of Savoia welcomed them in the Regno di Sardegna (kingdom of Sardinia). Once settled in the island, they founded Carloforte. The island of Sant’Antioco is united to Sardinia through an isthmus which permits connection via land. The Mount Perdas de Fogu reaches 271 meters. In spite of the rocky prevalence, it is possible to enjoy the splendor of a long sandy beach: on the south, at about 10 km, the dunes of Cunisoni, one of the main attractions of the territory.
